Sustainable Uniforms for Hospitality & Hotels

Guest-facing amenities tend to get the most attention in a hospitality brand's sustainability strategy — but staff uniforms represent a significant, often overlooked opportunity of their own. A property outfitting dozens or hundreds of staff members has real purchasing power to direct toward more considered sourcing.

Why Uniforms Are a Meaningful Sustainability Lever

Unlike guest amenities, which are typically single-use or short-term, uniforms are worn repeatedly by the same staff member over months or years — meaning durability directly determines both the total environmental footprint and the total cost of an outfitting programme. A poorly made uniform that needs replacing twice a year has a worse footprint than a well-made one replaced once every two to three years, regardless of the initial material sourcing.

What to Look for When Sourcing Sustainably

Durable, natural-fibre fabrics. Hemp and hemp-blend fabrics — the same materials we use across our own range — hold up to the demanding, repeated-wash conditions of daily hospitality work better than many synthetic uniform fabrics, while also breathing better across a long shift.

Verified certifications over vague claims. The same scrutiny that applies to any sustainability claim (covered in our guide to spotting greenwashing) applies here — look for named certifications like GOTS rather than a supplier's own unverified "eco" labelling.

A supplier willing to discuss fit and repair, not just initial supply. A uniform programme built around properly fitted, durable pieces with an easy repair or replacement pathway for individual worn items outperforms one built around bulk, lower-quality ordering with frequent full replacement cycles.

The Guest-Facing Benefit, Beyond Sustainability Alone

A well-considered uniform programme isn't purely a back-of-house sourcing decision — staff appearance and comfort visibly affect guest perception, and increasingly, properties are finding that sustainably sourced uniforms double as a small but genuine talking point in broader ESG-conscious guest communications, alongside amenities like the ones covered in our boutique hotel wellness post.

Where We Fit Into This Conversation

We currently work with boutique hotel partners on guest-facing amenities, and staff uniform sourcing is a natural extension of that same relationship for properties interested in exploring it — particularly given our existing hemp-based fabric sourcing and small-batch production capability.
